Why Are Leaders Losing Their Entrepreneurial Spirit?
With the hustle and bustle of day-to-day operations, business leaders often fall into a rut, losing that spark of what motivated them to start and grow their businesses to begin with. Why does this happen and how do leaders find their entrepreneurial spirit again?
Their passion becomes nothing more than a “job”
Entrepreneurs are driven by passion, building businesses from the ground up. However, it takes a lot of hard work and resilience to build and sustain a business. After so many long days, entrepreneurs experience exhaustion and burnout. After falling into monotonous daily routines, entrepreneurs lose inspiration. Their passion becomes a chore or an obligation.
Entrepreneurs can find their passion again by reflecting on their “why”:
- “Why did you start your business to begin with?”
- “Why do you do what you do?”
Everything you do should be centered around your vision, mission statement, and company values. Your vision, mission, and values should be plastered all over your facility, marketing materials, and internal communications. If you have lost your vision, your team certainly has as well.
Company culture does not support collaboration
Many businesses start as a one-man operation and grow with time, bringing on employees as needed. Even very driven, motivated entrepreneurs need help — but not just anyone will do. Entrepreneurs thrive in groups of like-minded individuals who contribute new ideas and fresh perspectives. Entrepreneurship is collaborative and growth-oriented. Unfortunately, many entrepreneurs limit collaboration to maintain a strict hierarchical structure. However, limiting collaboration stifles creativity and stunts organizational growth.
To keep the entrepreneurial spirit alive, leaders must be willing to embrace collaboration on all levels. The constant flow of new ideas and fresh perspectives keeps the passion alive. When employees feel their opinions and ideas are valued, they are passionate about their work and jobs.
They fail to take risks
Entrepreneurship is all about evolution. Entrepreneurs are constantly searching for new ways to grow their businesses. Often, growth requires taking risks. For entrepreneurs who are passionate about their businesses, taking risks can be scary, as they have a lot to lose. So, many play it safe and later grow discouraged because their businesses are not evolving.
To keep the entrepreneurial spirit alive and become an industry leader, you must be willing to take calculated risks. Using proven business metrics, weigh your options and evaluate all outcomes. You could be one intimidating risk away from revenue growth!
