Quarterly Planning: Reflecting on Q1 & Q2
May is upon us, which means it’s time to start quarterly planning. You probably have an idea for what you want Q3 & Q4 to look like; you may have a list of goals for the second half of the year. To achieve these goals for Q3 & Q4, you must first reflect on the first half of the year and its takeaways. Floro Business Strategies breaks down quarterly planning and evaluation from a growth mindset:
What is a Growth Mindset?
People with a growth mindset embrace the attitude that their skills and abilities can be developed through dedication, hard work, and innovation. People with a growth mindset acknowledge that there is always room for improvement. People with a growth mindset do not simply settle for good but strive for excellence.
Approaching quarterly planning with a growth mindset will support improved processes, increase productivity, and ensure organizational success for years to come.
Reflecting on Q1 & Q2
As we prepare for Q3 & Q4 and begin planning for success, we must reflect. You cannot ensure success and growth without acknowledging what did and didn’t work the first half of the year.
Here are a few questions to ask yourself about Q1 & Q2:
- What were your major successes?
- What did you learn?
- What can be done differently July-December?
- What new processes, approaches, or habits served you well in Q1 & Q2? What processes, approaches, or habits proved to be inefficient?
- Did you face any major obstacles or challenges? How did you overcome these challenges? How would you overcome these challenges if they arise again in the future?
Planning for Q3 & Q4
Now that you have reflected on Q1 & Q2 from a growth mindset, you can create clear goals and objectives for July-December. Here are a few questions to ask yourself as you strive for success in the coming months:
- What do you wish to achieve in July-December? Of these goals, what are your top priorities? Do you have a timeline for each goal?
- What skills or approaches are required to achieve these goals? Is additional training necessary to acquire new skills?
- Do all employees and departments have a clear understanding of their individual objectives and how their roles contribute to organizational success?
- What were your greatest takeaways from Q1 & Q2 reflection? What successful approaches do you plan to implement moving forward? What inefficient processes are you leaving behind?
